It is interesting to note that A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 357 contains, in seven words, a complete summary of the whole of the course. Speaking about how we look upon our brothers, Jesus says that the Voice for God tells us that the way back to God is to: “Behold his sinlessness, and be you healed.” W483. This shows how awakening, which seems so difficult to achieve, should really quite simple. Forgive others and we will be healed, which means our minds will become whole and no longer split into two. The part that believes in the ego and this world will disappear. And this, we are told, will awaken us from the dream of separation.
So why does awakening from the dream seem so elusive? Is it because we don’t really believe in the innocence of others and of ourselves? Is it because we don’t really know that we are sons of God having a dream of separation? Is it because we can’t help clinging onto to the ego and all the things we have in our lives because they seem familiar and safe?
A Course in Miracles is a simple and straightforward course but it certainly cannot be described as easy. A lot of mind training is needed to help us let go of all the concepts, beliefs, roles, etc. that the ego has put in place for us. Those who have managed to do this tell us that awakening can then become quite easy and can be achieved in a holy instant. For those of us who aren’t quite there yet, it takes faith and trust to listen to what Jesus is telling us and to follow his instructions and advice.
